Mini Excavator Rental in Halifax County, VA

Two late-model Kubota mini excavators built for tight work — the 1.8-ton KX018 that slips through a 3’05" gate, and the 3-ton KX033 that still trailers behind a half-ton truck. Rubber tracks that go easy on a lawn, real dig depth, and someone who answers the phone. Daily, weekly, or monthly, delivered anywhere in Southside Virginia.

[ 01 ] · What You're Renting

Small Machine, Big Reach.

A mini excavator rental is the right call when the big iron simply won't fit. Where a full-size machine has to stay out front, a Kubota mini ducks through the side gate, works between the house and the fence, and digs in spots a skid-steer can't even reach. We run two of them — the 1.8-ton KX018 and the 3-ton KX033 — and between them they cover almost every tight-access job in the county.

The KX018 is the squeeze artist: 3 ft 5 in wide, light enough to set on a small trailer, and still good for 7.5 feet of dig depth. The KX033 is the everyday daily driver — a climate cab, more than 10 feet of reach down, and the bucket force to pull a root ball or break loose hard clay. Both ride on rubber tracks, so they tread lighter on a finished yard than anything with wheels.

Every machine leaves the yard fueled, freshly greased, and walked-through. First time on the sticks? We'll show you the controls before you pull out. Not sure which mini fits? Jump to the access & towing guide below, or just call the yard and tell us how tight the spot is.

[ 03 ] · What Crews Dig With Them

Made for the Tight Stuff

USE · 01

Backyard & Tight-Access Digs

The KX018 clears a 3’05" gate and works the narrow strip beside the house — pool excavations, patio dig-outs, and additions where the big machine never makes it past the front yard.

USE · 02

Fence-Line Post Holes

Bolt on an auger and walk the line. Set posts for privacy fence, livestock fence, or a new run of board fence far faster than a two-man auger — and the machine pulls the spoil away as you go.

USE · 03

Irrigation & Sprinkler Lines

Cut clean, narrow trenches for sprinkler zones and drip lines without chewing up the whole yard. Easy to follow a layout and easy to backfill once the heads are set.

USE · 04

Small Drainage & French Drains

Solve the wet corner of the property. Dig a consistent-grade trench for a French drain, downspout run, or yard drain — the KX033's reach gets you depth without standing in the ditch.

USE · 05

Landscape & Hardscape Prep

Carve out beds, dig footings for a retaining wall, and rough-grade for paver patios and walkways. Rubber tracks mean you prep the hardscape without wrecking the lawn around it.

USE · 06

Residential Utility Hookups

Trench for a new water line, electrical conduit, or a gas run from the meter to the house. The minis dig straight and tidy right up to the foundation where bigger machines can't tuck in.

[ 04 ] · Access, Towing & Which Mini

Will It Fit — and Can You Tow It?

With minis it's never about dig depth first — it's about the pinch point you have to squeeze through and how you're getting the machine to the job. Here's the quick read on both.

3’05" GATE

KX018

At 3 ft 5 in wide, the KX018 is the one that fits a standard 3’05" gate, a 36-inch walkway, or the gap between a house and a fence. Open ROPS keeps it low and light. Measure your tightest opening — if it's 41 inches or more, this mini clears it.

WIDER · MORE DIG

KX033

A touch wider than the KX018 but with a climate cab, 10 ft 5 in of dig depth, and real bucket force. Pick it when access allows and you want depth, reach, and a faster cycle — but check your gate width first if the job is fully enclosed.

TOW YOURSELF

Half-Ton Friendly

The KX018 (4,030 lb) and KX033 (7,560 lb) both trailer behind a half-ton or three-quarter-ton pickup on a properly rated equipment trailer. No CDL, no heavy-haul rig. Match the trailer's rating to the machine plus a bucket and you're set.

OR WE DELIVER

Across Five Counties

We pick up and deliver mini excavators throughout Southside Virginia — Halifax, Mecklenburg, Pittsylvania, Charlotte, and Brunswick counties, including South Boston, Danville, Chase City, South Hill, Clarksville, Chatham, and Lawrenceville. Round Out the Job

Mini Excavator
Questions.

Straight answers on access width, towing, tracks, attachments, and delivery.

The KX018 is just 3 ft 5 in wide, so it slips through a standard 3’05" gate and most side-yard access points with room to spare. The KX033 runs a little wider, so measure your tightest pinch point — fence opening, gate, walkway between the house and the shed — before you reserve. If you give us that number when you call, we'll tell you straight which mini clears it.
Yes. The KX018 weighs 4,030 lb and the KX033 weighs 7,560 lb, so both trailer behind a half-ton or three-quarter-ton pickup on the right equipment trailer — no CDL needed. Just make sure your trailer is rated for the machine plus a bucket and the tongue weight works for your hitch. Not set up to haul it? We deliver across all five counties.
Both minis run rubber tracks, not steel, so they spread the weight and leave a lawn in far better shape than a wheeled machine or a skid-steer. You'll still see track marks and some compaction on soft, wet ground — that's physics — but on a normal yard the grass bounces back. Work when the ground isn't saturated and you'll barely leave a trace.
Both machines run a digging bucket standard, and we stock augers for post and footing holes, hydraulic thumbs for grabbing roots and rock, and breakers for busting concrete and stubborn ledge. The KX033 has the hydraulic flow to swing a breaker comfortably; the KX018 handles augers and a thumb well. Tell us the job when you reserve so we have the right attachment fitted and ready.
Go mini when access is tight, the lawn matters, or you're towing it yourself — gate digs, post holes, irrigation, French drains, and small utility work all live in the KX018/KX033 range, which digs 7.5 to 10.5 feet. Once you're cutting deep footings, working ponds and septic, or moving real volume, step up to the 4-ton KX040 and the bigger classes on our full excavator page. Not sure? Call and describe the dig — we've run them all.
Yes — across Halifax, Mecklenburg, Pittsylvania, Charlotte, and Brunswick counties. Because the minis are light, delivery is usually our most affordable drop, billed as a flat fee by zip with no surprise mileage charges. Call 434-572-6992 and we'll quote your delivery along with the machine.
